90's Now
Current Fashion Goal: Aaliyah's 90s style with Janet Jackson’s swag.
Staple Pieces Needed to Accomplish this: High-waisted true denim jeans, fitted crop top, a cool hat or sick pair of sunglasses and a fresh pair of kicks.
I would describe my ideal style as 90s chic or fashion, now (as in 2017). To achieve my ideal style and current fashion goal I decided to spend all of last Saturday afternoon thrift shopping with my roommate in Syracuse, NY. To my surprise, I found the perfect pair of true denim “mom jeans/90s-inspired” jeans! Of course they were basically 5 sizes too big but, I figured it was totally worth my $7.99. Now, if you didn’t know, the slightly-baggy, slightly-fitted, 90s light-wash jeans is also the epitome of 90s.
This is an example of how my love 90s fashion and obsession with today’s trends clash. Today, it is safe to say that skinny jeans are the norm (it even transitioned from low-rise to high-waisted) however, in the 90s, jeans were primarily high-waisted (for both men and women), light-wash and ranged from slightly loose to baggy.
So, I purchase my super baggy, light-wash, true denim, high-waisted jeans and fell in love with them. Now I am ALMOST equipped to pull off my favorite Aaliyah looks: Jeans ✔️, crop top ✔️, fresh kick ✔️, cool hat or sick pair of sunglasses ✖️.
Currently on a quest to find a cool hat or sick pair of sunglasses. Updates of this look to come in the near future. In the meantime, check out my 90s now inspiration, Aaliyah and Janet Jackson.
Until next time!
